The collected samples were ground and ballmilled to-250μm for chemical analysis. The major elements of the samples(such as oxides SiO2,Al2O3,Fe2O3,K2O,Na2O,CaO,MgO,MnO,P2O5and TiO2)were measured by a fully integrated X-ray fluorescence(XRF)spectrometer(Epsilon 5)and LOI(loss on ignition)of the samples was determined gravimetrically after the samples were ignited for the XRF testing at the School of Geography,South China Normal University. The X-ray results were further studied by calculating three widely used weathering indices(Ruxton Ratio–R;Chemical Index of Alteration-CIA;Weathering Index of Parker-WIP)obtained from the relevant literature(Ruxton 1968;Nesbitt and Young 1982;Parker 1970).Table 1 outlines the indices evaluated in this study.
