The total RNA was extracted from roots using the RNAprep Pure Plant Kit（TIANGEN，Beijing，China），according to manufacturer’s instructions.Sequences of the primers（Table 1）for K+transporter genes including Md CHX4.8，Md CHX4.9，Md CHX4.11，Md CHX1.3（Cellier et al.，2004），Md HKT1（Maser et al.，2001），MdHAK3.2（Rubio et al.，2000），and the Malus elongation factor-1 alpha gene（EF-1α；DQ341381）were designed by Primer Premier 5.0software（Biosoft International，Palo Alto，CA，USA）.Quantitative real-time PCR was performed on an i Q5.0 instrument（Bio-Rad，Hercules，CA，USA）using SYBR Green q PCR kits（Ta Ka Ra，Dalian，China），according to manufacturer’s instructions.
