1) F-value is the result from two-way ANOVA.C,planting pattern;G,soybean cultivar;C×G,the interaction between pattern and cultivar.2) B1,B2,and B3 represent Nan 032-4,Jiuyuehuang,and Nandou 12,respectively.Data within a column followed by the same

The results showed that with the stem growth and development, the lignin content of soybean stem showed gradually and consistently increasing trend. The stem lignin content of soybean cultivars in intercropping and monocropping was significantly different(Table 1).The stem lignin content of all soybean cultivars was significantly lower in intercropping than that of monocropping. At the same time, all soybean cultivars produced a similar lignin content trend in intercropping and monocropping that is marked as:B3>B2>B1.At the end of the co-growth period, stem lignin content of B1,B2,and B3 soybean cultivars in intercropping was 32.20,33.99,and 25.94%,respectively,lower than that of the monocropping.Analysis of variance showed that planting patterns and cultivars significantly affected the stem lignin content and indicated a significant interaction that high shade tolerant and lodging resistant cultivars can maintain high level of lignin content, which improves the mechanical strength of the stem and increases the lodging resistance for the intercropped soybean.
