The carbon content of the recovered catalysts was measured by temperature programmed oxidation(TPO)studies(Fig.7a)and elemental microanalysis(Table 2).The textural properties of the spent catalysts, such as specific surface area, pore volume and pore size were measured by N2-physisorption and is presented in Table 2.Before,the TPO measurements and elemental analysis, the recovered samples were all washed with warm ethanol and acetone, then vacuum filtered and dried overnight to remove reactants and products from the surface of the catalysts.During the TPO experiments, the evolved CO and CO2concentration peaks were monitored to measure the carbon contents of the samples. The CO and CO2concentrations were summed and they are shown as COx.Also, during the oxidation, the evolved water was monitored to measure a C/H mass ratio which can be used to approximate the nature of the deposited carbon species(Fig.7b).
