A total of 18,17,28,12,11,8,12,and 8 WNK genes were identified in the sequenced genomes of peach, pear, apple, strawberry, raspberry, grape, orange, and papaya, respectively(Table 1).Phylogenetic analysis indicated that the WNK genes could be grouped into two classes,I and II(Fig.1).Class I comprised four groups, denoted A–D,while the class II WNKs comprised two groups,E and F.Almost all of the analysed species had representatives in each group, with the except of papaya and raspberry genome that did not contain representatives in group C and E,and the pear genome lacked representatives in the group E and F(Fig.2).Each group could be divided into at least two sub-groups based on high bootstrap values for internal nodes(Fig.2).Each sub-group contained at least one WNK gene from the peach genome, while sub-group E3 only consisted of two genes,Pp WNK.E3.1 and Pp WNK.E3.2(Fig.2,E).In each sub-group,WNK genes derived from Rosaceae species(Peach, apple, and strawberry)tightly clustered together, which is consistent with the Angiosperm Phylogeny Group(APG)classifications(Bremer et al.,2003;2009;Byng et al.,2016).
