The martensitic steel sheet is typically formed by bending, and suppliers usually recommend the minimum bend radius for a 90°bending should be four times the thickness of the material. This applies to most roll-formed products of martensitic steels grades commercially available. In fact, the formability of martensitic steel sheets of different grades differs to some extent.Sheets with lower strength usually exhibit better formability and may be applied for a smaller bend radius as shown in Table 2.For practical applications of martensitic steel sheets, room for further deformation and delayed fracture must be considered in addition to formability. Therefore, real bend radius should always be larger than ideal minimum bend radius. The recommended bend radius is given based upon the materials data and practical applications of Baosteel’s martensitic steel sheets, and it is strongly recommended to be taken as a reference criteria in designing and forming components.A bend radius designed to be smaller than the recommended value might be risky to consumers.
