M g alloys used in the experiment w ere made from M g(99.9%),aluminum(Al)(99.5%) and zinc(Zn)(99.9%) ,as well as intermediate alloys Mg-20%Ca and Mg-25.63%Y,as per the ingredient proportion specified in Table 1.All ingredients w ere smelt in a crucible heated by a resistance furnace.Before smelting,all tools w ere first dried,and the flux XJ-5 w as used for cover protection and refinement.w hen smelting.And the smelting temperature w as 750℃.The specific processes for making AZ91D w ere as below.M g blocks w ere first added into the crucible,and w hen M g blocks w ere melted,Zn,Al,manganese(M n)and silicon(Si)w ere added in sequence for preventing burning the intermediate-alloys.Finally,the intermediate-alloys w ere added.When all ingredients w ere added,the melt w as kept still for 15 min,refined for 5 min,and finally kept still for another 15 min.After separating the slag from the melt,the melt w as casted into ingots under the protective atmosphere of SO2.During the casting,the melt flow w as slow and smooth,and no breaks of the flow w ere allow ed.
