Samples of hematite iron ore were collected from the Orissa and Chhattisgarh Regions,India. The chemical compositions of the iron ores were determined through X-ray fluorescence spectroscopy(XRF-1800,SHIMADZU,Japan).The results are shown in Table 1.Essel ore had a lower Fe content(56.50wt%)than Kirandul and Bacheli ores, which had Fe contents of 65.79wt%and 67.0wt%,respectively.XRD analysis was performed to identify the phases present in the iron ore samples. The XRD patterns of the ores are shown in Fig.1 and reveal that hematite, silicon oxide, and aluminum oxides were the primary phases in the ores. The pore volumes and surface areas of the ore samples were determined with a BET surface area analyzer(Quanta chrome/AUTOSORB-1)and are presented in Table 2.Considerable variations were observed in the moisture contents(0.98%to 2.9%),total pore volumes(0.0866 to 0.1152g/m L),and specific surface areas(8.634 to 12.588 m2/g)of the ores.
