In Fig.8a,the as-formed LC is also composed of lightweight aggregates, sands and hydrated cement pastes,etc..The area A,area B and area C in Fig.8b are identified as lightweight aggregates, hydrated cement pastes and sandsaccording to the EDAX results,as shown in Table 5.A boundary in interface between sands and hydrated cement pastes appears(see Fig.8b).However,there is no obvious boundary in interface between lightweight aggregates and hydrated cement pastes(see Figs.8b and 8c),indicating the high adhesive of cement pastes on the surface of lightweight aggregates[26-27].In Fig.8d and Table 6,the dense and more tightly bindered interfaces between lightweight aggregates(area D)and hydrated cement pastes occur which are attributed to the decreased content of needle-like ettringite(area E)and sheet-like calcium hydroxide(area F).The as-prepared lightweight aggregates have much more rough and porous shell, compared to the sintered lightweight aggregates, which increases the 1-h water adsorption. However, high roughness and water adsorption also induce the secondary hydration of cement on the surfaces of lightweight aggregates and provide water for the later hydration of cement, and hence improve the composition and properties of hydration products of the interface in LC[26–27].
