《Acupuncture in living liver and kidney donors: a feasibility study》
aPercentage of pain anticipated to relieve ranges from 10%to 100%.VAS:visual analogue scale;STAI:State–Trait Anxiety Inventory;SD:standard deviation.
Active recruitment occurred between April 1,2014 to November 15,2014;July 28,2015 to October 13,2015;and May 25,2016 to October 31,2016.The lapses in recruitment periods were due to acupuncturist availability in the system for the protocol(acupuncturist turnover).During periods of active recruitment,40 potential participants were identified and approached.Eight of the 40 patients(20.0%)declined participation(7 kidney and1 liver donor). An additional 7(17.5%)initially consented but did not participate;surgery was canceled for four, two withdrew from the study prior to donation, and one decided against donation entirely. This resulted in a total sample of 25 participants who consented and participated in the acupuncture intervention.Additional participant characteristics are presented in Table 1.
