Based on our review,the prevalence of SFP anywhere from 2%-10%(Table 1).This is in keeping with a prior meta-analysis which documented a 4.28%prevalence[12].The reasons for this low prevalence are several most important of which are low index of suspicion leading to a delay in carrying out appropriate diagnostic work up,and longer period of time required for fungal growth.Despite a lower prevalence than SBP,this systematic review confirms that SFP patients with cirrhosis have a high inhospital mortality(33.3%-100%)and 1-mo mortality(50%-73.3%).
