a) Revised from Yang et al.(2000)and Chen et al.(2000)(refer to the text for the details) .The zones numbered but unnamed indicate they exist in China but no characteristic fossils could be used for them at moment.

The conodont biostratigraphy at PTB is best studied in the marine Triassic of China, especially at the Meishan section, and it has become the classic PTB biostratigraphic zonation. At the stratotype section, six conodont zones are precisely documented within the strata of less than one meter across the PTB(Figure 1).These conodont zones can be correlated regionally and even globally and the zonation becomes a criterion for judging the completeness of the PTB stratigraphic sequences(Yin et al.,2014;Jiang et al.,2014).The Early Triassic conodont biostratigraphy above PTB has been extensively studied at many sections but the best studied is at the Chaohu sections in Anhui Province,South China(Zhao et al.,2007,2008).Both definitions of IOB and SSB are from Chaohu(Tong et al.,2003;Liang et al.,2011).The most complete Middle Triassic conodont biostratigraphic succession is found at the Guandao section in Luodian County,Guizhou(Wang et al.,2005),at which not only the base of the Middle Triassic can be well defined by the FAD of conodont Chiosella timorensis but also the base of the Upper Triassic indicated by the FAD of conodont Quadralella polygnathiformis exists in the upper part of the section.Although Budurovignathus praehungaricus, the auxiliary conodont marker of the Anisian-Ladinian boundary has not yet been found in China, some other characteristic conodont species, such as Budurovignathus hungaricus and B.truempyi, which are correlative with the stratotype section though slightly higher than the GSSP in Italy, occur in the Guandao section.Especially, the FAD of Paragondolella excelsa correlates to the base of the Reitziites reitzi zone. There is no complete Upper Triassic conodont biostratigraphic sequence found in China.Part of the Carnian conodont succession is recognized in southwest Guizhou, but the relatively complete conodont biostratigraphic sequence is preserved in Tibet though the related researches are limited there(Wang and Wang,1976;Tian,1982;Ji et al.,2003).Besides,a few conodont zonal species were reported from the late Triassic cherts in the Nathan Hadaling area, eastern Heilongjiang Province(Shao and Tang,1995).The index fossil of the Norian,Metapolygnathus echinatus, has not been found in China, but the lower zonal fossil,Metapolygnathus primitius, was reported in Tibet(Ji et al.,2003).A relatively complete conodont biostratigraphic zonation of China can be summarized based upon the reported conodont data from China(Table 2).
