《Effect of biochar on fate and transport of manure-borne estrogens in sandy soil》
The effective distribution coefficient(Kdeff)values of SB treatments were significantly higher(H0:p<0.05)than soil treatment(Table 2).Although both biochars effectively improved retention of estrogens in soil, the sorption coefficients of both estrogens were significantly(p<0.05)higher in SBS450than SBH750.The sorption behavior of biochars is a function of the physiochemical and structural characteristics(Kim et al.,2016).The elemental composition of BS450with lower H/C molar ratio(0.34)than that of BH750(0.55)confirms the higher aromaticity of BS450with more organic carbon(Jung et al.,2013).The enhanced sorption sites of biochar with lower H/C molar ratios are correlated to their higher carbon content(Salvia et al.,2014;Zheng et al.,2010).Similarly,Hao et al.(2013)correlated the increased adsorption of atrazine on corncob biochars with decreased H/C and(O+N)/C ratios. The higher aromaticity of BS450enhanced the interaction of both estrogens with aromatic adsorptive sites of biochar viaп-пelectron donor-acceptor interactions resulting in higher Kf values(Kupryianchyk et al.,2016).
