Therefore,the crucial role that forest reserves play in the self-sustaining cycles of maintenance and repairs of these wooden structures should be recognised.’‘Institutions responsible for the conservation of monuments and sites should encourage the protection of original woodland reserves and establish stores of seasoned timber appropriate for the conservation and repair of wooden built heritage.’Above are mentioned in Principles for the Conservation of Wooden Built Heritage 2017.Meanwhile,adopting wood authentication in laboratory with the method of wood anatomy and conducting scientific classifications of the wood types used in Chinese wooden built heritage is the basis to ensure scientific and effective protections of wooden built heritage.It is also a prerequisite for the establishment of historical forest reserves for wooden built heritage.In this paper,the wood species of wooden built heritage in Beijing,Shaanxi,Tianjin,Shanxi,Shanghai,Zhejiang,Sichuan,Guizhou and Guangzhou provinces are analysed with the method of wood anatomy and summarised in botanical classifications based on the authentication and analysis in laboratory.Based on the above findings and the current conditions of Chinese forest resources,three tentative ideas to establish historical forest reserves in China are proposed:cultivating trees for Chinese wooden built heritage,establishing Chinese historical forest reserves along the waterway transportation routes,and rationally adjusting the proportion of wood species in Chinese historical forest reserves.Establishing Chinese historical forest reserves contributes to the sustainable supplement of restoration materials for wooden built heritage.Further historical researches on the wood species and applications of Chinese wooden built heritage will be put forward to provide theoretical support for the establishment of Chinese historical forest reserves.
