The water resource fee was first imposed in Hunan Province in 2009，so the year 2010 can be used as an example to calculate the horizontal ecological compensation for WSSs flow of Dongjiang Lake Basin（Fig.8）.In 2010，the water resource fee in Hunan Province was 0.02 yuan RMB/m3 and the total horizontal ecological compensation for WSSs for Dongjiang Lake Basin was 34.3×106 yuan RMB.Each actual SBA should bear the compensation based on their net water demand.Correspondingly，each actual SPA could obtain compensation based on their net water supply（Table 6）.The No.15，No.9 and No.24 sub-basins were the hot spots of WSSs in Dongjiang Lake Basin in 2010.The net water supply in descending order and the horizontal ecological compensation of each sub-basin were 4.0×106，3.9×106 and 3.1×106 yuan RMB，respectively.Considering these factors above can motivate local residents to implement water resource conservation behaviours and activities.
