whereσis the fracture strength,Fmax is the maximum tensile load for BCNT,t is the inter-layer distance of graphite and takes 0.34 nm[25].Young’s modulus was approximately calculated byσ/(ε/100%).Fig.11 shows the typical stress–strain curves of muli-walled BCNTs.Table 3 shows the mechanical properties of BCNTs with different H/D values.It can be seen that BCNT with smaller H/D value exhibits lowerσand Young’s modulus.It indicates that the more compartments BCNT has,the poorer mechanical property it shows,which can be attributed to the increased structure defects introduced by compartments(as shown in Fig.3).This conclusion is in good agreement with numerical works performed above.
