The contact angle of quartz was measured in the presence and absence of sodium alginate, and the results are given in Table 2.Similar to the results recorded in several papers[32-33],quartz particles exhibit strong hydrophilicity in deionized water, and their hydrophilicity is stronger after conditioning with calcium ions. After the addition of sodium oleate, the quartz surface showed hydrophobicity with a contact angle of 118.5°.After the addition of sodium alginate, the hydrophobicity of quartz increased, and the contact angle increased to 132.6°.Therefore,sodium alginate could enhance the hydrophobicity of quartz after conditioning with calcium ions and sodium oleate, thus increasing its recovery rate;this finding agrees well with the flotation test results of artificially mixed ores.As shown in Table 2,starch can adsorb on the hematite surface, thus significantly reducing the contact angle of hematite.Calcium chloride, sodium oleate, and sodium alginate exert minimal effect on the contact angle of hematite and chlorite.
