Different lowercase letters in the same column represented significant difference among the different successional stages （P<0.05）

There were large differences in C，N and P contents of plants and litter of the communities in the four successional stages（Table 2）.Grass had much lower leaf C，N and P contents than the other three successional stages.Leaf C content was the highest in shrub，followed by primary forest and secondary forest.Leaf N did not significantly（P<0.05，the same below）differ among shrub，secondary forest and primary forest.Primary forests had the highest leaf P and there was no difference with shrub.There were no differences in litter C between the communities in the four successional stages.Secondary forest had the highest litter N and P.Litter P was the lowest in primary forest.Litter N followed the order:secondary forest>primary forest>shrub>grass.
