According to statistics, the average initial date when the temperature in Pengzhou City stably exceeds5℃is February 10,and the latest initial date is March 8.Therefore,the period from early February to early March can be used as a suitable sowing date for spring potato. The initial date when the temperature stably exceeds 10℃is in late March, conducive to rapid growth. The initial date when the air temperature stably exceeds 20℃is in late May,conducive to tuber expansion.The≥5℃effective accumulated temperature during the whole growth period is 3 721.1℃,and the average air temperature of the hottest month is 25.0℃,meeting the requirements of accumulated temperature and planting conditions by growth and development of spring potato. In short, the heat resources can meet the heat accumulation and intensity requirements of spring potato growth and development. The average temperature at each growth stage of spring potato in the past years is shown in Table 6.As shown in Table 2and Table 6,the ten-day average air temperature and ten-day average soil temperature in the past years have both exceeded the lower limits for rooting and germination. If the seedling stage is arranged from mid-February to early March, the air temperature and soil temperature will be between the lower limits to the suitable temperatures, and the young seedlings will grow slowly;and if it is arranged from mid-March to late March, the air temperature and soil temperature will be both suitable, and young seedlings will grow well.During the young seedling growth-branching period, the soil temperature in the early period is suitable for further growth of root buds, and the air temperature in the later period is suitable for growth of stems and leaves.During the blooming stage, the air temperature and soil temperature are higher but within the suitable ranges. The large temperature difference between day and night is beneficial to flowering and tuber expansion. At the harvestable stage, the air temperature and soil temperature are much higher and are not suitable for further expansion of tubers,so the growth rate is decreased. At the maturity stage, the air temperature is close to that at which the tubers stop growing. But is coincides with the harvest season,so it produce no effect on the yield. In short, when the period from early February to early March is selected as the suitable sowing period for spring potato, the ten-day average air temperature and average soil temperature in the past years are within the appropriate ranges, and the heat resources are abundant during the vegetative and reproductive growth periods, which can meet the needs of growth and development of spring potato in all stages.
