The elements Re and Os are differentially fractionated between the mantle and crust.Re is an incompatible element that is easily distributed by magmatic fluids in the mantle.Os is a highly compatible element that tends to stay in the mantle. Therefore, the Re–Os isotopic system is sensitive to the amount of crustal material incorporated during the ore–forming process(Mao et al.,1999;Chen Yuelong et al.,2005).The Re content in molybdenite changes according to the depth of the source of the ore–forming materials and tends to decrease in magnitude in the following order:mantle origin→mixed mantle–crustal origin→crustal origin.Molybdenite originating in the mantle has a Re content on the order of 100 ppm;molybdenite of mixed mantle–crustal origin has a Re content on the order of 10 ppm;and molybdenite originating in the crust has an Re content on the order of 1ppm(Stein et al.,1997;Mao et al.,1999).The measured Re contents of the molybdenite in the Shizitou Mo deposit fall between 65.05 and 150.20 ppm, averaging 103.42ppm(Table 2).Based on these values, the Mo deposit has features consistent with a mixed mantle–crustal origin.
