Moreover,we compare the variations of the zonal interbasin SSTG and the LTC frequency in mainland China.Figure 3a shows the lag correlations between the monthly SSTG and the LTC frequency in mainland China during boreal summer(June–August).The correlation coefficients display significance at the 99%confidence level from February to June.In March,the correlation coefficients are at their highest,reaching about-0.50.Given the significant relationship appearing in spring(March–May),this paper focuses on the influence of the spring SSTG on summer LTCs.Their time series are shown in Fig.3b,revealing a close relationship with correlation coefficients of about-0.51,exceeding the 99%significance level.Table 1 shows that the annual mean LTC frequency during the 11 negative SSTG years is 1.6 more than that during the 26 positive SSTG years.
