In the literature,we can find a wide diversity of results trying to find a specific characteristic to determine the potential contribution of a single species to slope conservation(De Baets et al.2008;Tosi 2007;Bischetti et al.2005;Stokes 2007;Rauchecker et al.2019).A comparison of mean values obtained in this study and results obtained by other authors is showed in Table 3.To find similarities and differences in the morphological characteristics of Gleichenia japonica and species reported on four previous studies log-transformed data was used(Figure 4).Distinct groups of species of different vegetation types but under the same test methodology and study area are clearly grouped when plotted together.This might indicate thatdifferencesbetweenmorphological characteristics seem to be the product of regional influences and test methodology differences rather than differences of vegetation type or species when compared as a group.
