The general properties of three basic pitches(P200,P250,P300)were listed in Table 1.The SP,CY and n-hexane insoluble(HI)fractions of three basic pitches increased w ith increasing distillation temperature.The maximum SP,CY and HI w ere 158℃,30.2%and 48.4%,respectively,w hich w ere attained from the P300.The increase of SP and CY suggested that more light components w ere removed as confirmed by the TG curves in Fig.1(a),w hich show that temperature of initial w eight loss is higher for P300 than that for P250 and P200.Furthermore,all of three basic pitches w ere completely soluble in toluene,w hich meant that the molecular w eight w as relatively small and no large molecules w ere formed[15].M oreover,the elemental analysis of basic pitches show ed that C content increased and H content decreased w ith increasing distillation temperature.In addition,all of three basic pitches had low contents of O and S.
