To ensure comparability and internal validity,the ICNALE,i.e.International Corpus Network of Asian Learners of English(Ishikawa,2013),was used as the database for this study.48 sets of learner texts were randomly selected(See Table 1 for the bio-data).All learners were categorized into four CEFR levels(A2,B1_1,B1_2 and B2+)1based on their language test scores(i.e.TOEFL IBT or PBT).The texts produced by each learner include two essays on two different topics.
