Group 1:negative control,receiving 10 mL/kg body weight(b.w.)distilled water;Group 2:disease control group,receiving RIF+INH(both 100 mg/kg b.w.,the same below)+10 mL/kg distilled water;Group 3:receiving RIF-INH+TOPE(125 mg/kg b.w.);Group 4:receiv

The effects of TOPE(125–500 mg/kg)on serum enzymes, proteins and bilirubin in RIF-INH-intoxicated rats are shown in Table 3.Statistically significant hepatotoxicity was induced in rats following intoxication with RIF-INH.The percentage elevation of hepatotoxicity in disease control group was AST(25%),ALT(18%),ALP(32%),CBIL(28%)and TBIL(26%),and depression of TP(31%)and ALB(32%).TOPE or silymarin markedly(P<0.001)decreased the elevated AST,ALT,ALP and TBIL levels in RIF-INH intoxication rats, and elevated the depressed levels of TP,ALB and CBIL.The percentage hepatoprotection of Groups 3,4,5,6 and 7,compared to the RIF-INH control group, was as follows:AST(180%,191%,215%,196%and 213%),ALT(246%,479%,521%,491%and 474%),ALP(163%,154%,192%,194%,and 236%),TP(77%,62%,52%,52%and92%),ALB(77%,88%,100%,80%and 82%),CBIL(210%,249%,276%,305%and 70%)and TBIL(251%,258%,266%,242%,and240%)(Table 3) .
