Melanin/PDA-based nanomaterials possess some attractive properties that make them good candidates for bioimaging(Figure 4 and Table 1):(1)due to their broad optical absorption,the melanin/PDA NPs can be directly used for PAI in vivo;(2)by adsorbing of Fe2+,Fe3+,Mn2+,Gd3+,or coating on Fe3O4NPs,melanin/PDA-based magnetic nanomaterials can be constructed for MRI;(3)after labelling with radionuclides such as64Cu,melanin/PDA-based nanomaterials can be applied for PET;(4)due to the photoluminescent properties of CDs,the melanin/PDA-originated CDs have potential for fluorescence imaging(FI);(5)by integrating different imaging modalities into one nanoplatform,melanin/PDA-based multifunctional bioprobes can be constructed for multimodal molecular imaging.Detailed applications on bioimaging of melanin/PDA-based nanomaterials are discussed in the following.
