A total of 28 samples were collected from shallow tube wells during March 2015.Sampling locations are shown in Fig.1c.Water samples were collected in 1-liter sterilized polypropylene bottles and transported to the laboratory of the General Commission for Groundwater and stored at 5°C for further laboratory analysis.In order to ensure that all the samples are representative of their aquifers,the tube wells were continuously pumped for a while(almost 7 minutes)prior to the sampling.The groundwater samples were analyzed for various water quality parameters,namely p H,electrical conductivity,total dissolved solids,major cation(calcium,magnesium,sodium and potassium)and major anion(chloride,sulfate,bicarbonate,carbonate and nitrate).The analyses wereperformedusingstandardmethods recommended by the American Public Health Association(APHA,2005).pH and electrical conductivity were measured in situ using the corresponding portable electronic device.The analytical methods or the instrument used for each parameter along with abbreviations and units used in this study are shown in Table 1.
