除了新增词条外，马氏词典的原创性还可以体现为马守真所提供的译名。马守真在翟氏词典的基础上做了不少改进，如“爱情affection；love”（翟理斯译为amorous）、“爱惜to love in compassion；to spare，to pity”（翟理斯译为“to like；to be economical”）、“回头是岸the shore is just behind you———repent，and reformation is easy”（翟理斯译为“the shore is just behind you，i.e.you can easily reform”）、“炸药high explosives”（翟理斯译为“dynamite”）、“战功meritorious military service”（翟理斯译为“military services”）等。
