According to tightening methods used in installing bolted connections,the bolts can be installed w ith or w ithout pretension.It is not necessary to apply pretension w hen using ordinary bolts,and snug-tightened w ould be adequate.Current national standards GB 50017—2017 and GB 50755—2012[14]require that pretension should be applied for high-strength bolts and the specified design values of pretension of bolts are show n in Table 1.AISC360-16 allow s the structural engineers to determine w hether pretension is required according to the loading conditions of the bolted connection.Normally pretension is required for bolted connection under dynamic and fatigue loads,as w ell as for high-strength bolts subjected to combined tension and shear[4].High-strength bolts are classified into three groups(Grade A (830 M Pa),Grade B (1 040 M Pa)and Grade C(1 380 M Pa))in AISC360-16 according to the material strength.Group A bolts are equivalent to Grade 8.8 in China,w hile Group B bolts are equivalent to Grade 10.9.Table 2 show s the minimum high-strength bolt pretension specified in AISC360-16.The comparison betw een Table 1 and Table 2 show s that the pretension of high-strength bolts specified in AISC 360-16 is about 15%higher than that of GB 50017—2017.
