Samples of stone coal waste rocks were collected from a waste dump in Hubei Province,China according to their disposal method,storage time,and granularity.The waste rocks were produced during the mining of stone coal ore.The waste rocks were crushed and sieved to 0–0.15 mm(fine fraction),0.5–1.0 mm(medium fraction),and 1.0–2.0mm(coarse fraction)for leaching tests before being air dried and homogenized.The X-ray diffraction(XRD)analysis(Fig.1)revealed that the main mineral compositions of the stone coal waste rocks were quartz,mica,and pyrite.In general,mica is the sole host mineral of vanadium.The concentrations of heavy-metal elements(V,Pb,Cd,Cr,As)in the original sample,as measured by inductively coupled plasma optical emission spectrometry(ICP–OES)and inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry(ICP–MS),are shown in Table 1.
