*No case of ASA IV was registered.PD:pancreatoduodenectomy;ASA:American Society of Anesthesiologists.

PREPARE variables were prospectively collected:American Society of Anesthesiologists(ASA)score, pathology of pancreatic origin, technical procedure, elective surgery, albumin and hemoglobin levels(blood sample was obtained before patient was taken to operating room),heart rate and blood pressure(determined at admission, the day before surgery).Following the reported methods, suitable variables have been registered as close as possible to the moment of surgery[2].Points were allocated depending on these variables(Table 1)and patients were stratified based on PREPARE risk categories(low, intermediate and high).Other preoperative variables(not included in the aforementioned score)were also considered for analysis:gender, age and body mass index(BMI)transformed into dichotomous variables(cut-off established by median value of the sample),alcohol and tobacco consumption, hyperlipidemia defined as drug therapy requirement, diabetes mellitus(DM)defined as oral hypoglycemic agents and/or insulin requirement, presence of biliary stent(only analyzed in patients undergoing PD or TP)and preoperative confirmation of malignant pathology.
