TheInternationalUnionofAnthropologicalandEthnologicalSciences(IUAES)wasestablishedonAugust23，1948，whenitmerged，infact，withtheInternationalCongressofAnthropologicalandEthnologicalSciences(ICAES)，whichwasfoundedin1934.ThelatterwastheproductofvariousCongressesofAnthropologicalSciences，startingin1865.TheIUAESisoneofthememberorganizationsoftheInternationalSocialScienceCouncil(ISSC)andalsooftheInternationalCouncilforPhilosophyandHumanisticStudies(ICPHS).TheIUAESisalsoamemberoftheInternationalCouncilofScientificUnions(ICSU).Itsaimistoenhanceexchangeandcommunicationamongscholarsofallregionsoftheworld，inacollectiveefforttoexpandhumanknowledge.Inthisway，ithopestocontributetoabetterunderstandingofhumansociety，andtoasustainablefuturebasedonharmonybetweennatureandculture.TheIUAESoncenotedadraftstatementonthefutureofworldanthropologyin“CurrentAnthropology”(1979)：“Thescopeofanthropologyintermsofareasofhumaninterestincludessuchcriticalissuesofthecontemporaryworldasproblemsofenvironmentalmanagement，pressurefortheprogressivereductionofdisparitiesandtherestructuringoftheworldorder，thefutureofthenation-state，ethnicpluralismandthefutureofnationalsociety，andtheharmonizationoftherolesandfunctionsofinstitutionswiththebasicandderivedbiologicalandpsychicdrivesofman.”TheIUAESitselfconsistsofnationalandinstitutionalorganizationsinmorethan50countriesinallpartsoftheworld，andalsoincludessomehundredsofindividualmembers.TheresearcheffortandinvolvementoftheIUAESisprincipallyarrangedbyitsscientificcommissions，ofwhich，currently，therearetwenty-seven，andeachofwhichconcentratesonsomeareasofanthropologicalinterest.Theyincludedethnicrelations，agingandtheaged，women，children，youth，migration，epidemiologyandAids，tourism，primatology，linguistics，andsoon.
