Note:Active Al2O3 or active SiO2 means the ratio of the percentage between total active SiO2 or Al2O3 to the total quantity of SiO2 and Al2O3

Activity rates of two kinds of Yellow River sediment were tested by a specific method,“rapid evaluation on activity of pozzolanic materials”,proposed by Lian[14].The test process is described as following:firstly,0.800 0 g sediment powder(after drying at about 110℃)was put into a 500 mL three neck flask which is inserted with a reflux condensing tube;then 350 mL saturated limestone solution was injected to ensure a complete reaction of active ingredients in the sediment sample and boiled for 2.5h;10 mL concentrated hydrochloric acid was added into the solution;before re-boiling for another 15min,the distilled water was used to clean the inwall of reflux condensing tube.Secondly,the solution was cooled before pumping filtration,and then distilled water was injected to reach the 500 mL scale line on the measuring flask;25 mL solution was took into a 250 mL volumetric flask and then meter volume.Before testing,the solution should be shaken well.Optima 2000DV plasma-atomic emission spectrometer(ICP)was adopted to analyze Si and Al contents in the solution,and then calculate the activity rate.Lian defined the activity rate(Ka)of pozzolanic material was the ratio of the percentage between total active SiO2 and Al2O3(which react with saturated limewater)to the total quantity of SiO2 and Al2O3.Activity rates for two kinds of sediment and slag are shown in the Table 3.It is obvious that the activity rate of Mengzhou sediment is higher than that of Huayuankou sediment.However,their activity rates are much less than that of slag.The active SiO2 rates of three samples are much higher than active Al2O3 rates.
